A/Prof Harry Merkur

A/Prof Harry Merkur is a consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist and is a founding member and Director of the Sydney West Advanced Pelvic Surgery Unit (SWAPS). Dr Merkur began his training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and furthered his training in the UK. Areas of specialisation include Colposcopy and management of abnormal PAP smears, Ultrasound and Minimally Invasive Surgery. Dr Greg Jenkins

Dr Greg Jenkins is an Obstetrician & Gynaecologist and is a Visiting Medical Officer at both Westmead & Auburn Hospitals. He commenced specialty training in Westmead hospital and undertook one year of advanced training in the UK before commencing speciality practice in Western Sydney in 1996. He has a strong interest in infertility (Sydney IVF) and endometriosis treatment. Dr Jenkins is also heavily involved in the recruitment and training of new Specialists in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Western Sydney.

Dr Norman Blumenthal

Dr Norman Blumenthal is an Obstetrician & Gynaecologist and has been in private practice since 1984 in Western and Northern Sydney. Dr Blumenthal began his training in South Africa and furthered his training as Senior Registrar at Westmead Hospital and in laparoscopic surgery in France. Dr Blumenthal has a keen interest in Minimally Invasive Surgery such as operative hysteroscopy, laparoscopy and also the management of incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction. Dr Arifa Khan

Dr Arifa Khan is an Obstetrician & Gynaecologist specialising in Minimally Invasive Surgery. Following her graduation she joined Westmead Hospital. In pursuing her special interest she was the Fellow in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at Sydney West Advance Pelvic Surgery unit. Dr Khan was awarded a traveling fellowship in 2004 and traveled to world-renowned centres for Endoscopic Surgery in France and Italy and has spent a year working in England.

Dr Seng Chua

Dr Seng Chua is an Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with a keen interest in Minimally Invasive Surgery. Dr Seng Chua is a consultant VMO (Westmead Hospital and The Children Hospital, Westmead) and has been in private practice since 2005. He is heavily involved in research in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He is part of the Specialist Services Group with a multidisciplinary team of more than fifty Specialists and many consulting sites spread across north western Sydney. He is also the President of Australian Chinese Medical Association. His various publications can be obtained through Australian & New-Zealand Journal of Obstratrics and Gynaecology.

Dr John Pardey

Dr John Pardeyis an Obstetrician & Gynaecologist and Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Nepean Hospital He has been in private practice since 1989. He completed his specialist training in the UK and was the first to introduce operative hysteroscopy to Sydney. He is one of the few gynaecologists qualified at the highest level for both Hysteroscopic and Laparoscopic Surgery. He is trained in both vaginal and Laparoscopic mesh repair of pelvic injury. Dr John Pardey’s main interests are in the treatment of Endometriosis, Urogynaecology / prolapse and Minimally Invasive Surgery. He works closely with both psychologists and colorectal surgeons in a multi disciplinary approach to care. He continues to mentor junior doctors in specialist fields of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Dr George Hardas

Dr George Hardas is an Obstetrician & Gynaecologist and works in private practice and is a Visiting Medical Officer at Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals. In 2004, Dr Hardas completed the Fellowship with Sydney West Advance Pelvic Surgery unit and he has a special interest in the treatment of women with endometriosis, infertility (Sydney IVF) and in Urogynaecology. Dr Hardas runs the Endogynaecology Clinic at Westmead Hospital, which promotes the teaching and training of Minimally Invasive Surgery.

Dr Matthew Wilson

Dr Matthew Wilson is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and is a Visiting Medical Officer at both Westmead and Blacktown hospitals. In addition to placing first in the postgraduate examinations for obstetrics and gynaecology (Australia wide) he has undertaken intensive training in advanced pelvic surgery. He has a keen interest in obstetrics, infertility (in association with Sydney IVF) and minimally invasive surgery. His article on laparoscopic hysterectomy was published in The Journal Of Minimally Invasive Gynaecology in March 2008. Dr Wilson continues to be involved in research and the training of junior staff in obstetrics and gynaecology. He is in private practice in North Western Sydney. www.drmatthewwilson.com.au

Dr George Condous

George Condous is Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Nepean Clinical School, University of Sydney. He is a specialist in Gynaecological Ultrasound and Advanced Endosurgery. He is currently editor of the Australasian Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine (AJUM), as well as the Associate Editor for Gynecologic Obstetric Investigation, which is a European based journal. He has written three books including the Handbook of Early Pregnancy Care, published over 70 papers in international journals and is internationally renowned for his work in Early Pregnancy. He is on the organising committee for this years WFUMB meeting to be held in Sydney August 2009. His current research interests relate to the management of ectopic pregnancy, pregnancies of unknown location (PULs), miscarriage and 1st trimester fetal growth patterns. He also is evaluating the use of 3D/4D transvaginal ultrasound (TVS), and in particular Sonovaginography, to predict rectovaginal endometriosis as well as 3D/4D TVS to predict uterine weight and the need to morcellate in women undergoing laparoscopic hysterectomy. Dr Apputhurai (Anbu) Anpalagan

Dr Anpalagan is an obstetrician and Gynaecologist, works at Westmead, Westmead private and Norwest private hospitals. At Westmead hospital he supervises a multi-disciplinary Gynaecology clinic. Dr Anpalagan is a trained advanced laparoscopic surgeon through Sydney West Advanced Pelvic Surgery unit. He has therefore, a strong interest in endoscopic surgery. He also has a strong interest in research and published in The Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynaecology.

Dr Alan Tong

Dr Alan Tong is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and is a Visiting Medical Officer at Westmead Public and Private, Norwest Private, Strathfield Private and Blacktown Hospitals. He graduated from the University of Sydney and completed his specialist training at Westmead Hospital and Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh in Scotland. He has a special interest in Infertility (Westmead Fertility Centre and IVF Australia), and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery.

Dr Alan Tong is committed to training medical students (The University of Sydney and The University of Western Sydney), residents, GP trainees, and registrars. He was appointed as a Clinical Superintendent at Westmead Hospital during his final year of training. He is currently a Training Supervisor for Registrars and Residents at the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, and a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney.www.dralantong.com.au
